In A Display Of Sheer Cheek

IN a display of sheer cheek, Italian designers paraded a peep-show of see-through fashions on Milan's catwalks yesterday.

"The glimpse of a young woman's beautiful breast is a pleasure," declared the septuagenarian Giorgio Manolo, who draped perky young models in sheer chiffon shawls for his Emporio christian louboutin collection.

"It always depends on how it's done -- it mustn't be overtly exhibitionist."

Judging from the cheeky displays of bottom-baring hotpants, transparent cotton petticoats and tiny micro-minis paraded in the spring-summer 2010 louboutin shoes collections yesterday, women will need to start paying obsessive attention to their underwear next summer.

But at Emporio Manolo, models wore nothing but their birthday suits beneath the see-through shawls.

Singer Tina Turner beamed from the front row as a marathon of 100 models sauntered through louboutin flagship mega-store, in a show the designer branded "the return to femininity".

Scalloped skirts, fashioned from feather-light shantung silk in tones of stone and pewter, were pleated like paper fans. Tight suede jackets, edged with crochet or piped with satin ribbon, were sculpted to nip the waist and give a glimpse of navel.

But Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana showed no such modesty. Their daring collection for the D&G label gave new meaning to visible panty line.

Spindly models with bird-nest hairdos showed off their smalls beneath light petticoats made of lace, organza or cotton gauze.

At Just Cavalli, the miniskirts were as short as the Louboutin shoes were high. Just 18cm long, the gold brocade "Pepita pants" were only just bigger than the 15cm soles on the platform Christian Louboutin shoes.

But one designer found his rivals' flasher-fashion too much to bear.

"I prefer a more subtle sensuality, Salvatore Ferragamo's womenswear designer, Graeme Black, said. "I love it when a woman can keep her femininity without being in-your-face."

A flapper-style, drop-waisted dress of pleated silk opened Ferragamo's show. Inspired by a weekend in Istanbul, the collection mixed scoop-necked suede jackets with more exotic pieces.
